Jewellery Artist
My youthful studies in visual arts and painting was always carried out with a keen awareness of textile crafts and decorative arts.
Working in polymer clay is a relatively recent venture and it has been a revelation in terms of manipulation of colour, akin to painting in 3 dimensions, which I find immensely satisfying and challenging.
Like many, I can spend delightful hours on a beach, head down tail up, looking for those particularly special pebbles that stand out from their companions, whether for their graphic stripes, their interesting inclusions or the serenity of a perfectly smooth grey oval.
I have gazed at my pebble collections for years and occasionally translated them into drawings, paintings and textiles. Then I discovered polymer clay!
The process of making pebbles in this medium engages the artistic mind, the need to observe, interpret, create and master some technique as well as embracing a certain level of unpredictability.
After several sessions of making pebbles I have my own beach to combe! I select and arrange the beads into necklace formation with very careful attention to a balance of colour and shape. Each finished piece is unique and unrepeated.
